Things happen in our lives that seem to make no sense. Sometimes we manage, and sometimes we don’t. When we don’t, internal and external experiences can be so overwhelming that we can loose ourselves. I understand this because I too have had to find sense and purpose in my life. As I accepted and changed, I made a commitment to myself that should I become holistically healthy enough, I would give back to this world that brings us both challenges and gifts.
I have a Master’s degree in Social Work from U.B.C. (Reg .#8333); am a certified clinical hypnotherapist; and have a Provincial Instructors Diploma. I also have over 30 years of experience utilizing individual and group modalities with a variety of clientele, as well as teaching and mentoring other clinicians and counsellors. During that time, I have worked extensively with men and women who have experienced trauma, in numerous settings such as women’s resource centers, bridging to employment programs, and mental health clinics.
I base my practice on a trauma informed approach, incorporating an understanding of how traumatic events and resulting distress can impact individuals physically, emotionally, behaviorally, and socially. This includes an awareness of the importance of cultural and gender sensitivity. I am dedicated to cultivating an atmosphere of safety and growth based on non-judgmental acceptance and opportunity for change.
In my clinical practice, I utilize an eclectic approach based on your needs. I am versed in many practice modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Hypnotherapy informed Mindfulness, and a Solution Focused approach.
